Background

When and where did you initially develop an interest in the history of the crusades and/or the Latin East?

When I in 1999 became part of a research programme in Denmark on the Scandinavian Crusades in the Baltic Region.

Who or what sparked your enthusiasm for the subject?

My interest in crusading movement in general and the religious thoughts and ideas in the Middle Ages definitely initiated my interest in the Baltic crusades that have become my primary field of research.

Influences and Methodologies

What ideas and/or methodologies have informed your approach to your research?

The pluralist approach towards the medieval crusading movements have been very inspiring to me as has the various contacts with colleagues from Scandinavian, the Baltic Lands, UK, Germany and US.
