Background
When and where did you initially develop an interest in the history of the crusades and/or the Latin East?
My interest comes from my study of the Genoese expansion in the eastern Mediterranean for my State doctorate in 1976 (La Romanie genoise).
Who or what sparked your enthusiasm for the subject?
My supervisor, Professor Paul Lemerle, suggested me this extension of my studies.

What ideas and/or methodologies have informed your approach to your research?
The most important thing is to work on good published sources or on documents from the archives, to which we must be very critical and proceed with comparisons
Research Outlook
What do you consider to be the most important avenues for future research in the field of crusader studies?
The extension of archaeological research not only in Israel but also in the main territories occupied by the crusaders in the XIIth and XIIIth centuries. And I must add detailed research in the archives of Venice, Genoa , Pisa and Marseille to get new sources on the crusader period.
