Historians of the Crusades

This site presents the results of a pilot study for an on-line historiographical database of scholars working in the field of crusader studies. It seeks to provide students and researchers with a valuable study tool, offering access to the biographical and bibliographical records of academics who have worked on the history of the crusades and the Latin East from the early nineteenth century to the present day.

It is hoped that by revealing personal, academic and intellectual connections between these individuals, unrecognised issues of networking and shared methodology will be highlighted. Furthermore, through inviting active researchers to offer comment on what other factors and approaches have influenced their work, the database aims to provide insights into how the writing of academic medieval history is carried out in the twenty-first century.
